Scary Pests in Your Home This Halloween!

Autumn is here and that means it’s time to pull out those spooktacular halloween decorations. Halloween is a time to embrace the scariness of mice, bats, bugs, and pests that give us a chill. You see plastic bugs and bats, lining the shelves at your local grocery stores holiday sections. But nothing will give you more of a fright than when you realize those scary pests around your house aren’t plastic, they’re the real thing haunting your home with their presence. That’s when you know you need to call the scary pests experts at McCauley Services of Benton.

Spiders, roaches, and rats, oh my! While insects and pests are active year round, they tend to look for a warm place to retreat as the chill hits the Arkansas air.

Spiders

Why are spiders a staple decoration whenever Halloween comes around? They weave their creepy little webs in old abandoned spaces. Just the thought of seeing a big spider weave its web while you walk through your home is enough to send chills down your spine. Spiders like to make their home in the dark, warm corners of your house to protect its families from the cold weather.

You may enjoy scaring yourself with haunted houses and horror films during this spooky season, but you don’t want the real life fright of venomous spiders bunking up with your family.

While not every spider is dangerous, in fact most are not, brown recluse and black widows can be dangerous. Brown recluse will bite if disturbed or cornered. The effects of a brown recluse spider bite can range from mild irritation to slow-healing open sores. It may even prove fatal for some. Get ahead of your fears, and check out what McCauley services offers to keep the creepy crawlies away.

Cockroaches

Spiders aren’t the only insect that is a part of the emphamis Halloween decor. Cockroaches can be seen on Halloween decor shelves by the bag full. Cockroaches are known to crawl around areas that are dirty and disease ridden. There isn’t a scary movie where you don’t see cockroaches roaming around a creepy scene.

There are thousands of species of cockroaches in the world but in Arkansas we consider three species to be nuisance pests. They are the American cockroach, German cockroach and the Smoky Brown cockroach. You can read more about each breed here.

While cockroaches aren’t a deadly insect, they do carry diseases on their bodies and in their feces that can make you incredibly ill. The only thing that should make you sick this Halloween is an over abundance of candy from trick or treating. If your home is infested with these nasty little guys, give us a call.

Rats

Rats’ connection to Halloween dates back to the Black Plague and according to National Geographic they were “known to infest abandoned, filthy, or tumbledown places believed to be haunted by ghosts. Nocturnal and secretive, rats were also feared in ancient times for their association with epidemics and plagues.”

Rats are famous for spreading disease and ruin homes that they infest. There isn’t much that is more frightening than finding signs that your home is infested with rats.

How Do You Know If You Have a Rat Infestation?

If you haven’t physically seen rats in your home but think you may have a problem, here are some sure signs that there are rats living with you.

  • Rat droppings
  • Scratching and crawling in walls and ceiling
  • Nests made from plastic bags, chewed up towels, etc.
  • Damage on wires, walls, etc.

Rats are disease ridden and can cause so much damage once they nest in your home. Don’t be afraid though, McCauley Services has been taking care of rat infestations in Central Arkansas since 1983. We can take care of them for you too.

McCauley Services is the neighborhood pest watch and we want you to feel safe and secure in your home. When your little ones bring their halloween candy home after a long night of knocking door to door, we promise you can enjoy it without worrying about scary pests stealing your goodies.
